BEIJING -- Chinese compatriots across the Taiwan Strait have expressed strong indignation toward and opposition against Japan's so-called "purchase" of Diaoyu Islands, a mainland official said Wednesday.

Measures taken by each side of the Strait to safeguard the interests of the entire nation will be supported firmly by all the Chinese people, said Fan Liqing, spokeswoman of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland hopes Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will "gradually change" its "Taiwan independence" stance, a mainland official said Wednesday.

BEIJING -- Taiwanese authorities should "keep pace with the times" to amend inappropriate cross-Strait policies and regulations, a mainland official said Wednesday.

BEIJING -- A high-level working conference will open on Friday to discuss measures to protect the rights and interests of Taiwanese investors on the Chinese mainland.

The conference will be attended by officials from 33 central government departments, said Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a Wednesday press conference.

According to Fan, the conference will be part of efforts to implement a cross-strait agreement on investment protection and promotion.

Leader of Taiwan Ma Ying-jeou recently proposed examining the island's cross-Strait relation act, a move that has won support in Taiwan.

Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said relevant regulations of the island should be adjusted to meet the demands of cross-Strait exchanges after major breakthroughs have been made in mainland-Taiwan relations since May 2008.

BEIJING -- An official on Wednesday quashed recent rumors of Chinese mainland companies speculating on real estate in Taiwan, and expressed the hope for normal and favorable environment for mainland's investment on the island.
