US Interference in China s Internal Affairs Unacceptable: Egyptian Party
           晩豚: 2001-05-24 14:32         ン: system         輳苅

An Egyptian party here on Friday slammed as "unacceptable" the US decision on arms sales to Taiwan and US President George W. Bush's remarks on defending the island, saying they were provoking Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Socialist Arab Egyptian Party said in a statement faxed to Xinhua that such moves were flagrantly interfered in China's internal affairs.

The party warned that such actions will further foment the bluster of Taiwan's separatists, intensify tensions across the Taiwan Strait and threaten the security and stability in China.

The statement said that the US has obviously underestimated the determination and capability of the Chinese people to defend their sovereignty and safeguard their national legitimate rights.

More and more nations are loathing the US hegemonism and arbitrary intervention in internal affairs of other countries, it said, warning that if the US continues to act willfully, it will inevitably be fallen into isolation in the world.

The Bush administration Wednesday decided to sell a large amount of sophisticated weapons to Taiwan, which includes four Kidd-class destroyers, eight diesel-engine submarines, 12 P-3C aircraft and a good many other advanced weapons.

The 5-billion-US dollar deal is the largest between the United States and Taiwan after the 1992 decision by the former US President George Bush, father of current US President Bush, to sell 150 F-16 jet fighters to the island.

President Bush also said on Tuesday in an interview with the American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), that the US would do "whatever it took to help Taiwan defend themselves."
