How to view "certain foreign forces have further meddled in the Taiwan issue, interfering in China s internal affairs?"
           晩豚:2001-04-17 15:54        ン: system        輳苅

Fundamentally speaking, the Taiwan issue has resulted from meddling by foreign forces. The Chiang Kai-shek clique, relying on support from the United States, launched an all-out civil war in the late 1940s and escaped to Taiwan in 1949 after its defeat. In June, 1950 the United States sent its 7th Fleet into the Taiwan Strait and had its 13th Air Task Force stationed in Taiwan. In December, 1954 the United States and Chiang Kai-shek further signed the so-called Mutual Defense Treaty, putting Taiwan under the protection of the United States and leading to long and tense cross-strait confrontation. After the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States in 1979, the U.S Congress went so far as to pass Taiwan Relations Act in another attempt to obstruct the reunification of Taiwan with the Chinese mainland. In recent years, anti-China forces in the U.S. Congress have once again stirred up a "containing China" current. On May 22, 1995 the U.S. government permitted Lee Teng-hui to visit the United States. This was serious interference in China's internal affairs.

The meddling of foreign anti-China forces in the Taiwan issue is designed
to make the issue international, thereby obstructing China's reunification. Foreign forces' support for Taiwan authorities' "pragmatic diplomacy" (diplomacy that disregards the principle of one China) and their secret machination to push for a UN seat for Taiwan are designed to change the status of Taiwan as a part of China, thereby creating "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan."

Recent years have seen increased meddling in the Taiwan issue by foreign anti-China forces. This is because, witnessing a rapid economic and social development in China since it adopted policies of reform and opening to the outside world, they think they have more evidence to regard China as a potential threat. They do not want to see a unified and powerful China. They are bent on checking and containing the development of China by using Taiwan as a card. It is a strategy of "using Taiwan to contain China." The Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affair. The Chinese people are resolutely opposed to interference in China's internal affairs by any foreign forces in any form.
