Why does the Chinese Government Stand Opposed to the Taiwan Authorities Activities to "Enlarge International Living Space" Aimed at Creating "Two Chinas" or "One China, One Taiwan?"
           晩豚:2001-04-17 14:51        ン: system        輳苅

To safeguard the "one China" principle, the Chinese government is firmly opposed to the Taiwan authorities' activities of "enlarging international living space" designed to create "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan" in the international community.

Under the "one China" principle, in accordance with the nature, charter and practical conditions of relevant international organizations and in ways agreed and accepted by the Chinese Government, Taiwan has joined such international organizations as the Asia Development Bank and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum under the name of "Chinese Taipei." It is obvious that Taiwan enjoys broad living space in international economic and cultural fields.

However, the "international living space" being sought by the Taiwan authorities is of a political and official nature. They want the international community to recognize that "the Republic of China in Taiwan is an independent sovereign state." What they really want is international recognition of "two international legal persons" and "parallel international representation." They are dreaming of "dual recognition" and Taiwan's "return to the United Nations." Their ultimate goal is to let Taiwan have an "independent international personality." This is creating "two Chinas" and "one China, one Taiwan," a vain attempt to split Taiwan from China. The Chinese Government is firmly opposed to such an attempt.
