SHANGHAI, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The Denmark Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 received its millionth visitor on Saturday.
Jiang Longzhou from Jiangyin in Jiangsu Province, was identified as the pavilion's millionth visitor.
Jiang, together with his wife and three-year-old son, was welcomed by Christopher Bo Bramsen, Commissioner General of Denmark Pavilion at the expo and Former Ambassador to China. Denmark's Commissioner General at the Expo.
"I'm surprised to be so lucky and feel honored. My son was attracted to the pavilion as many visitors were riding bicycles inside so we just queued up to enter," Jiang said.
"We are surprised too as we previously expected to receive 3 million visitors during the six-month expo. But we got 1 million only in one month. It's a good sign," said Bramsen.
"It shows the Denmark Pavilion is quite popular. And we enjoy the dialogue with China and the visitors in this way," he said.
He attributed the pavilion's popularity to three things, "First is the Little Mermaid, which was lifted and moved outside of Denmark for the first time in 96 years. The second should be the architecture, which is unique and provides lanes for bicycles -- just like what we do in Denmark," he said.
"The third should be the messages from Denmark people to share with visitors: welfare, fairy-tale, bicycles to reduce traffic stress, clean water and diversity," he said.
The millionth tourist and his family received a book on Denmark culture written by Bramsen, a small replica of the Little Mermaid statue and a guided tour.
More than 1 million people had also visited the pavilions of China, France, Australia, Spain and the African Joint Pavilion.
