Wuxi in neighboring Jiangsu Province will host the third Expo theme forum on "Science &Technology Innovation and Urban Future" next weekend.
The forum will gather about 70 experts from 10-plus countries to discuss the interdependence of cities and science and technology as well as how science and technology innovation can lift a city's competitive edge and create a better future, Zhu Yonglei, deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, told a press conference yesterday.
Participants will share their visions on the application of technological innovation in urban development, the relationship between technology and city and how technology attributes to a city's sustainable development.
Speakers include UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi, Nobel Prize winner Li Zhengdao and leading agricultural scientist Yuan Longping.
Five panel forums will be involved to tackle the topic. They have the themes "Keeping Cities Safer with Science and Technology Innovation," "Science and Technology Innovation as a Driver for the Development of Cities," "International Education Leaders’ Roundtable," "Science and Technology Innovation as an Engine for City Competitiveness," and "The Promise of Science and Technology Innovation for a Better Quality of Life."
Six Expo theme forums are scheduled in all. The other theme forums will start successively in Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, and Shaoxing and Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province.
